Prof. D P  KOTHARI

 

Prof. D. P. Kothari graduated from the Department of Electrical Engineering, Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani in 1967. He completed his Masters degree in Power Systems from BITS, Pilani in 1969 where he continued to pursue his PhD.  He completed his PhD in 1975.

 

Prof.  D. P. Kothari is the recipient of National Khosla Lifetime achievement Award [2005] from IIT, Roorkee and Eminent Engineering Personality from the Institution of Engineers [2001]. Prior to his assuming charge as Director – Research group, MVSR Engineering College, Hyderabad he was Director General of RGI Nagpur, Emeritus Director general,VITS, Indore,  (2010-2011) . He served as Vice Chancellor of VIT University for 3 years (2007 – 2010). He served as Director i/c, IIT, Delhi [2005], Deputy Director [Administration], IIT, Delhi [2003-06], Principal, VRCE, Nagpur [1997-98], Head, Centre for Energy Studies, IIT, Delhi [1995-97]. He was visiting professor at RMIT, Melbourne, Australia in 1982-83 and 1989 for two years. He was NSF Fellow at Purdue University, USA in 1992.

 

His research expertise is in the field of Optimal Hydro-thermal Scheduling, Unit Commitment, Maintenance Scheduling, Energy Conservation (loss minimization and voltage control), and Power Quality and Energy Systems Planning and Modelling. He has published and presented 712 research papers in various reputed journals and conferences, guided 32 PhDs, 64 M.Tech Thesis. He has authored or co-authored 25 books including Power System Optimization, Modern Power System Analysis, Electric Machines, Power System Transients, Theory and Problems of Electric Machines, Renewable Energy Sources and Emerging Technologies, and Power System Engineering.

 

Prof. Kothari is a Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering [FNAE], Indian National Academy of Sciences [FNASc], Institution of Engineers [FIE] and Fellow, IEEE.

Prof. CHEM NAYAR

 

Prof. Chemmangot V. Nayar received the B.Sc degree in electrical engineering from the University of Kerala, India in 1969. He completed his Master of Technology in Electronics from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur in 1976. He did his PhD in electrical engineering specialising in wind electrical power generation from the University of Western Australia in 1985.

 

Prior to joining the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Curtin University of Technology, Perth, Australia, in 1986, he held academic and industry appointments in India, Singapore and Australia. Professor Nayar's research expertise is in the area of power electronics applied to renewable energy systems and electric power distribution systems. In 1988 he established the Centre for Renewable Energy and Sustainable Technologies Australia at Curtin University and successfully managed the centre for 15 years while undertaking extensive research on wind, solar and hybrid systems, both in Australia and internationally. Professor Nayar was awarded the title of Emeritus Professor in Electrical and Renewable Energy Engineering at Curtin. He is also the Managing Director of Regen Power Pty Ltd based in Perth, Sydney and Brisbane in Australia and Director of Radiant Solar Pvt Ltd in Fab City Special Economic Zone in Hyderabad. He has authored or co-authored more than 90 refereed journal articles, several book chapters and over 120 conference presentations. He has supervised 21 PhD students and 11 Research Masters students.

 

He is a chartered professional engineer and a Fellow of the Institute of Engineers Australia, a Chartered Engineer and Member of the Institute of Electrical Engineers (UK) and a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (USA).

Dr. RAVINDRA BHIDE

 

Dr. Ravindra Bhide (Member IEEE) completed his Ph.D in Electrical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) in 2010, with specialization in design and analysis of special transformers using Computational Electromagnetics. 

 

He joined GE Global Research in 2010 as a Research Engineer in Electromagnetic System Lab under Electrical Technologies and Systems organization, where he played the key-roles in design and development of interior permanent magnet generators, transformer topologies, variable reactors, and electromagnetic actuators.  Currently, he is a Lead Engineer in Electromagnetic System Lab driving the research in design of electrical machines, transformers and circuit-breakers.

 

His research expertise is in the field of computational electromagnetics, FEM algorithms, design and analysis of electrical machines, transformers, novel optimum transformer and reactor topologies. Recipient of 5 patents and author of 10 publications, Dr. Ravindra Bhide is also a reviewer of International Journals, e.g., IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, Magnetics and IEE Electric Power Applications.

 

Dr. PAULO M. MENDES

 

Dr. P. M. Mendes graduated in 1995, and obtained his MSc degree in Electrical Engineering, in 1999, both from University of Coimbra, Portugal. He obtained his PhD degree in Industrial Electronics, from University of Minho, in 2005. 

 

He is an Associate Professor at the Department of Industrial Electronics, University of Minho, Portugal, and a researcher of group Micro Nano Systems and Biomedical Applications. His interests include Microsystems, RF Microelectronics, Wireless Sensor Networks, Biomedical Devices, Antennas, Neural Interfaces, and Wireless Power.

 

Dr. P. M. Mendes is Member of the European Microwave Association, of the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society, and of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society.

 

Dr. H. D. MATHUR

 

Dr. Hitesh Datt Mathur received B.E. degree from Nagpur University, Nagpur, India, in 1998; M.E. degree from Malaviya Regional Engineering College, Jaipur, India, in 2000, and the Ph.D. degree from Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani, India in 2007 and He was Post-Doctoral Fellow in Supelec, Paris, France from January to July 2013.

 

Currently, He is Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, BITS, Pilani. He is having teaching and research experience of more than 13 years. Dr. Mathur is reviewer of various journals mainly IEEE Transactions of Energy Conversion, IET Renewable Power Generation, Electric Power Components and Systems.

 

He is a life member of Indian Society of Technical Education. He has published more than 40 papers in national/international journals and conference proceedings. His research interests include power system control of isolated and interconnected power systems, power system optimization, automatic generation control and artificial intelligence techniques applications in power systems and distributed generation (DG) with grid interconnection issues. Apart from academic activities, he is also involved in social responsibilities as Coordinator of National Service Scheme at BITS, Pilani.
