Anna University was established in the year 1978 as a unitary type of University. It offers higher education in Engineering, Technology and allied Sciences relevant to the current and projected needs of the society. The University was formed by bringing together and integrating the well-known technical institutions in the city of Chennai such as College of Engineering, Guindy, Madras Institute of Technology, Chromepet, Alagappa College of Technology, School of Architecture and Planning. Anna University presently has 17 constituent colleges across Tamilnadu and about 550 Engineering Colleges under its folds. National Assessment and Accreditation Council has rated the university with “A” grade. Anna University is ranked 293 worldwide in the Faculty of Engineering and Technology faculty by Quacquarelli Symonds’ (QS) World University Rankings 2016.
