Chennai is the capital city of the state of Tamil Nadu. . Due to its tropical location, the weather can be hot and humid. Although Chennai experiences three major seasons (summer, winter and monsoon), there is not much variation between them.

April and May are the hottest months of the year, with temperatures crossing 40°C and high levels of humidity. The cool sea breeze provides some respite from the heat. Chennai receives moderate rainfall of about 1,300 mm throughout the year and heavy rainfall during the monsoons, from October to December. It is therefore wise to keep an umbrella handy.

Winters are short lived in Chennai. They occur during the months of late December to February. This is the most pleasant time of the year. The average temperature of Chennai at this time is around 24°C and never falls below 20°C. Winters also see moderate rainfall.
