SUKRUTs 6th International BUILDING WALLS

SUKRUTs 6th International BUILDING WALLS: NEUROSIS TO PSYCHOSIS Exploring “the unconscious” fears and their social vicissitudes

From a psychoanalytic perspective, a central reason that people do not easily change is their fear of the dangers that they believe exist, bothexternally in society and internally in the psyche. Physical helplessness is revealed in case of real danger whereas psychical helplessness is revealed in case of instinctual dangers.

Basic fear and anxiety are both required for survival. The question is about their proportion to be constructive or destructive. Hence, fear may extend from neurotic anxiety to anxiety psychosis.

Fear is manifest in different spheres:

  • Politics: Fear as a foundation for politics, balancing the fear of despots authorizing his / her meaning of a liberal state, where mediating institutions keep each other in check so as to avoid too large a concentration of power.
  • Religion: Religion is based upon fear of the unknown – fear of the mysterious, fear of defeat, fear of death.
  • Gender: Men’s fear of women has apparently caused them to portray women in specific archetypes and treat them inferior.

Conference dates: January 3rd to 6th, 2019.

Venue: Christ University, Bangalore

CALL for PAPERS

Notes for Contributors about Submitting and Making Presentations

We invite papers on the topic and it’s related areas. For further details related to paper submission and presentation please visit: www.iccp2019.com

The abstract should set out the thrust of your argument, its theoretical basis, and your summary conclusions. Abstracts which merely indicate the questions you will be attempting to answer will not be accepted.

Please remember to include a front sheet indicating each presenter's (1) name including any title and/or qualifications by which they wish to be known, (2) country of residence, (3) any major publications (no more than 5), and a short biographical description in no more than 2 lines with focus on the presenter's current occupation and any academic or professional qualifications or affiliations they hold in preference to (say) name-checking a business, including links to websites or reciting past positions.

Your full presentation, which should meet accepted academic standards and if written as a paper, must be no longer than 5000-6000 words.

We will put you in touch with a facilitator for your session, with whom you should discuss how you wish to make your presentation, how you wish to handle questions and discussion of your ideas. The facilitator is there to support you, so do seek her/his advice, especially if you are new to presenting at Sukrut’s International Conference.

Presenting your Paper: You will be allocated a 60-minute session on 6th January, 2019. Please note that you are expected to attend on all the dates of the conference and we will not accept representations on when you would prefer to deliver your paper.

As a guide, we would strongly suggest that you spend no more than of 30 out of the 60 minutes presenting your work so that participants attending the session are provided with the opportunity to be involved.

Please do think carefully about your plan for presenting your work, and think how you can divide the session so that you can engage your audience as you talk about your ideas. If you have prepared a written paper we would encourage you not to read it verbatim, but talk through the key ideas you are presenting and seek questions for clarification. Remember that participants will have been sent the abstract in advance and may appreciate being offered a handout of your presentation or a copy of the full paper to take away from the session. If you wish to provide copies please bring them with you.

The aim of the International Conference is to open up discussion on new thinking and new approaches to understand ‘psychoanalytic perspectives in building walls’. You are strongly encouraged to adopt a presentation style, which encourages participation and dialogue from early in your session, in order to involve those attending, giving them the space to contribute their comments and thoughts on your ideas. Past experience has shown that this enables both presenter and participants to gain from the session.
