BANGALORE UNIVERSITY

Bangalore University, located in the Garden City of Bangalore and hailed as the IT Capital of India, was established in 1964. Since then it has grown in all directions and is now one of the largest Universities in Asia. The University operates from two Campuses: City Campus and Jnana Bharathi, 15 kms. away. Conceived as a Federal University, Bangalore University has grown into an Affiliating University. The University was Accredited with 5 Stars by the NAAC in 2002 and re-accredited in with ‘A’ Grade in 2008, having conferred the same status. It has been ranked as one of the top 20 Universities in the country by the India Today – Nielen Study (2012).

Bangalore University offers Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Research Programmes in six Faculties spread over 54 Departments. It has 694 Affiliated Colleges, covering the City of Bangalore and its environs. A post graduate Centre was established at Kolar in 1994-95, 70 kms. away from the main City.The University has launched five year Integrated Courses in the Faculties of Biological Science, Social Science and Business Studies. Bangalore University has Memoranda of Understanding (MOU’s) with various Universities and institutions of National and International repute. The vision of the University is to make distinctive and significantcontributions to the cause of higher Education in Humanities, Social Sciences and Science and Technology.

 

DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE
The Department of Commerce was established in the year 1969, housed in 100 years old magnificent Structure located in the City Campus. Initially it offered only M.Com with student strength of just 30. Over a period of nearly five decades, Department of Commerce has grown in terms of introducing new Courses, undertaking Research Programmes, Publishing Books, organizing Seminars and Conferences and holding Fests. As of now there are over 700 students in the Department on any given day pursuing such Programmes as M. Com (Master of Commerce), M.F.A (Master of Finance and Accounting), M.T.A (Master of Tourism Administration), M.I.B (Master of International Business), PGDBA, PGDMM, PGDFM,PGDHRM, PGDIB and Ph. D programmes. Typically the Department is a mini-university within the Bangalore University.
Being a premier post graduate Department in Commerce in Bangalore University, the Department has been proactive in revising syllabus once in five years both at the undergraduate and post graduate levels. It has the credit of introducing innovative courses such as MIB, MTA and MFA. It has been a pioneer in packaging a course on Business Ethics in MFA programme. The Staff of the Department of Commerce have undertaken Major and Minor Research Projects Funded by the UGC, have been providing consultancy services to major Organizations, have associated themselves with National Accounting Agencies and have Published Books of repute. They have offered their expertise in streamlining University Administration and in evolving right Policies and Manuals for better Governance of the University. The Staff have been chairing Technical Sessions at various Conferences held across the Country. Department of Commerce has encouraged the formation of Karnataka Federation of Commerce & Management Teachers of all the universities in the state of Karnataka. The Federation works in cooperation with the Department in promoting and strengthening Commerce and Management Education in Karnataka. Department of Commerce is happy to state that the Bangalore University had the privilege of successfully  organising the All India Commerce Conference in 1991. Now is the 66 Conference in the offing.

 

FEDERATION OF TEACHERS COUNCILS OF COMMERCE AND MANAGEMENT IN KARNATAKA (FTCCMK)
FTCCMK is a state level Organisation of Commerce & Management Teachers. The Federation has under its Umbrella, Commerce & Management Teachers Councilsof all the different Universities in Karnataka having 3000 as members. The objective of the Federation is to bring the Teachers, Industrialists and Professionals to strengthen Business Education and to act as catalyst of change to initiate measures concerning Business, Industry and Education.

 

BANGALORE UNIVERSITY TEACHERS’ COUNCIL OF COMMERCE AND MANAGEMENT (BUTCCM)
The Bangalore University Teachers Council of Commerce & Management is an affiliate of the Federation of Teachers Councils of Commerce & Management, is an Organisation of Commerce & Management Teachers of Bangalore University jurisdiction. It is a vibrant Organisation providing a platform to debate on regional issues concerning Business Education.
